Dental Implants
Implantology is a branch of oral surgery that we offer you in your dental practice Dr. Blume in Mainz. By means of an implantological measure we can help you to regain a positive attitude to life after the loss of one or more teeth, so that you can smile again soon without worries.
Dental implants have been used for over 30 years in a scientifically recognized manner to replace lost teeth and are now considered standard care in many situations. They cover a very wide range of therapies, theoretically any tooth loss can be reconstructed permanently, functionally and highly aesthetically.
After a comprehensive diagnosis and diagnosis with the help of the most modern technologies and 3D planning, an „artificial tooth root“ is inserted into the jawbone in a first step. Precise oral surgical procedures by your dentist Dr. Blume ensure that this procedure is minimally invasive and gentle, so that the subsequent healing phase can proceed optimally.
After a few weeks, a crown or bridge adapted to your tooth colour can be placed on the implant, which is now firmly attached to the jawbone. This is made of high-quality materials in cooperation with dental master laboratories in the region.
Individually adapted to your personal needs and requirements, an implant, unlike a conventional dental prosthesis, not only provides a natural aesthetic but also a permanent firm hold. Thus a natural functionality and aesthetics can be reached by a high-quality implant, so that you can laugh, eat and talk carefree again.
When planning surgical procedures, we rely exclusively on sound professional and technical training and are guided by the latest scientific findings. We would like to make all therapy options of our practice in the field of modern implantology transparent to you on the basis of the classification of the „Indication classes for implant treatment for standard care“.
On the following pages we would like to give you an insight into this exciting field of an oral surgeon and make our therapy possibilities transparent and understandable for you. After all, it’s all about your teeth.
What are dental implants? learn more...
A dental implant is a high-precision manufactured artificial tooth root, the material used in modern implantology is almost exclusively highly pure, biologically compatible titanium. Dental implants from more than 200 manufacturers are sold throughout Germany. In our dental office we work exclusively with quality products from the 5 largest manufacturers. Why? Since we plan and carry out all our treatments in your interest with foresight, we trust only in uncompromising quality in production, future availability of all components, honest technical and scientific support. All manufacturers from whom we purchase implants and abutment components have been fulfilling these criteria for many years, you are welcome to ask us for further information, transparency is very important to us in this area.

On 07.10.2014, the largest German specialist societies in the field of dental implantology adapted the description of the indication classes to the development of the specialist field. In 1994, the indication classes were described for the first time and were then continually expanded scientifically.
These therapy guidelines have proven themselves for more than two decades in daily practice and at university clinics. However, the optimal therapy cannot always be carried out for various reasons (especially anatomical, but also economic) and so these guidelines are regarded as scientifically sound planning aids for us implantologists and for them as patients.
Indication classes
Class 1 : Replacement of individual teeth
Class 2: Replacement of several missing teeth
Class 3: Rehabilitation of edentulous jaws
Class 1 : Replacement of individual teeth
1a: missing front teeth
If up to four teeth are missing in the anterior region of the upper jaw, but the adjacent teeth do not require treatment: 1 implant for each missing tooth or a bend on two implants
If up to four teeth are missing in the anterior region of the lower jaw, but the neighbouring teeth do not require treatment: 1 Implant can replace two teeth here
1b: missing posterior teeth
If individual numbers are missing in the side area, but the adjacent teeth do not require treatment, each tooth can be replaced by an implant.
Class 2: Replacement of several missing teeth
In the implantological treatment of several missing teeth, the dentition of the opposing jaw must be taken into account in the decision-making process. In addition, the rules of conventional prosthetics apply.
2a: several tooth gaps
For the restoration in the upper jaw by a fixed work 6-8 abutments are usually required, in the lower jaw 6 abutments. If natural teeth have a good, long-term prognosis and are in a favourable position, this can be included in the planning.
For a removable denture at least 4 abutments are required in the upper jaw and at least 2 abutments in the lower jaw. If natural teeth have a good, long-term prognosis and are in a favourable position, this can be included in the planning.
2b: Free end gap (behind the last tooth is a gap which is larger than two teeth)
the large molars are missing: 1-2 implants
a small one and the big molars are missing: 2-3 implants
both small and the large molars are missing: 3 implants
Class 3: Rehabilitation of edentulous jaws
Basically, a toothless jaw can be treated with a dental prosthesis which you can remove yourself for cleaning and care, or with a bridge which can only be removed by the dentist for control. Both variants can hardly be distinguished externally and with both you can talk, chew and laugh without hesitation! In dentistry, the first variant is called removable, the second fixed.
3a: Toothless upper jaw
If the upper jaw is to be treated with a fixed restoration, we need 6-8 implants for a long-term hold.
If the upper jaw is to be treated with a removable restoration, we need at least 6 implants for a long-term hold.
3b: Toothless lower jaw
If the lower jaw is to be treated with a fixed restoration, we need 6 implants for a long-term hold.
If the lower jaw is to be treated with a removable restoration, we need at least 4 implants for a long-term hold.
If you would like more in-depth information on this topic, we will be happy to provide it for you in a personal meeting and answer your individual questions in detail.

Treatment procedure? learn more...
Every implant treatment starts with a personal conversation between you and your dentist. Your individual wishes will be taken into account and the goal of the therapy will be defined.
For the basic planning an exact diagnosis of the mouth and jaws is carried out, in addition x-rays and models are produced in order to be able to make a reliable planning and to assess whether a treatment with dental implants is possible and reasonable for you.
For the safe treatment of complex cases, we produce 3D X-ray images to include even the smallest details and anatomical features in the planning.
During planning we follow a clear structure. Based on the treatment goal and the desired result, we plan the individual steps, no intervention is carried out which is not exclusively necessary for a perfect final result. The three-dimensional positioning of the implants in the jaw is exactly matched to the needs of the finished restoration. (Only if we have the goal in mind can we align your treatment exactly to it and guarantee a long-lasting dental prosthesis).
Only when all your questions have been answered and we have discussed the course of treatment together on the basis of the documents do we begin the therapy.
