Dentist and oral surgeon
Dr. Maximilian Blume
Dr. Blume began his academic career with his studies of dentistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, which he completed in 2009 with the state examination and his doctorate magna cum laude at the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University Hospital Mainz. This was followed by work as an assistant to Dr. Krebs in Alzey and as a scientific assistant to the Master of Science (MSc.) in Oral Implantology at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.
At the same time, he worked as a research assistant for Dr. Weigl in the Department of Postgraduate Education at the Carolinum in Frankfurt. In addition to his studies in dentistry, he also worked from 2011 to 2015 as a training assistant and scientific assistant with Prof. Dr. mult. Sader was employed at the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Frankfurt, where he was awarded his Specialist Dentist Oral Surgery by the State Dental Association of Hesse in 2014. This specialist training enables him to perform all oral surgical procedures precisely and gently. One aspect of this work is the supply of dental implants, which Dr. Blume specialized in during his time at the University Hospital of Frankfurt am Main. There he also led the implant consultation.
Due to his studies and his home in Mainz, Dr. Blume had long felt a connection with Gutenbergstadt, so it was logical for him to set up his dental practice in Mainz. With the takeover of Dr. Roland Schmitt’s dental practice, he was now able to fulfil this wish and has been available to his patients since 2016 with his dental practice and practice for oral surgery at Mainz Central Station.
In addition to his work as a dentist and oral surgeon in his own practice, Dr. Blume is involved in numerous research projects and as a lecturer in the field of oral surgery and implantology. He is also a lecturer in the Master of Oral Implantology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and is therefore always at the cutting edge of science and craftsmanship. In this way, he can always offer his patients state-of-the-art and well-founded treatment methods.
What is a dental specialist for oral surgery?
Of course, dentists can and may also perform oral surgery, because oral surgery is part of the general study of dentistry. Training as an oral surgeon, however, makes it possible to specialise in all oral surgical topics and therapies and is subject to strict regulations.
Thus, only dentists who have successfully completed at least three years of further training following their approval (approbation) may call themselves specialists in oral surgery. This includes treatments of the oral mucosa and soft tissue in the jaw area, anaesthesia, x-rays and clinical laboratory diagnostics, inflammations in the jaw-face area, surgical treatment in the upper and lower jaw, implantology as well as traumatological treatments such as the reinsertion of teeth after an accident with tooth loss or jaw fracture and wound care.
Therefore, it makes sense to have the treatment of complex procedures such as jaw surgery or the removal of crooked wisdom teeth performed in an oral surgery practice. In your practice Dr. Blume am Mainzer Hauptbahnhof we therefore offer you the entire treatment spectrum of modern oral surgery in order to be able to offer you professional and comprehensive treatment even in difficult situations.
